Mr. Bonds Goes to Washington
I don't know much about politics which is why I don't talk about them much, leaving that to my friends at SoapBox Politics, a.k.a. The Right Wing Brotherhood. Some would ask, why do I maintain this blog then, since I know little of sports either? To that I can only say that I find sports more interesting and far more unpredictable. Plus they've got the whole instant replay thing going for them. Then again if the BCS and the lack of a legitimate college football playoff system isn't political, I don't know what it is. But I digress...When I'm flipping channels, waiting for "Two and a Half Men" to come on, I can sometimes steal a laugh on ESPN when a pro athlete pontificates on politics, no disrespect to Charles Barkley.
In a shocking development, the media asked Barry Bonds, in town to play the Nationals, to address the Congressional investigation into steroid use by Major League Baseball players.
"I think we have other issues in this country to worry about that are a lot more serious. I think you guys should direct your efforts into taking care of that," proclaimed the prolific slugger.
Is Congress wasting its time with the investigation?
"Pretty much, I think so. Yeah."
Just when I was going to go off on a rant about all the things that would never get done in this country if we only did one thing at a time based on what was of a higher priority of importance, Dave Marin summed it up perfectly for me. A spokesman for House Government Reform Committee chairman Tom Davis, R-Va., Marin said, "Members of Congress...can walk and chew gum at the same time."
I can't beat that. Won't even try.
